Terms and Conditions

Below you will find the terms and conditions for entering the Hong Kong Photobook Dummy Award 2023. Please read carefully before submitting an entry.

  1. General Information
    • 1.1 The Hong Kong Photobook Dummy Award (“the Award”) is one of the highlights of the Hong Kong Photobook Festival (“the Festival”), organised by Lumenvisum Company Limited (“the Organiser”). 
    • 1.2 The Award aims to foster creative exchanges, support the emerging artists and make their book projects accessible to the international audience.
  • 2. Eligibility
    • 2.1 The Award is open to photographers, artists, designers and all the creative talents.
    • 2.2 There is no specific age and nationality limit for entering the Award.
    • 2.3 The photobook dummy can be done individually or collectively.
    • 3.4 The photobook dummy must be original.
    • 2.5 The photobook dummy must be self-published or unpublished. It cannot be published by any registered publisher or has never been committed to being published by any other publisher.
    • 2.6 ISBN is not a requirement for the Award.
    • 2.7 The photobook dummy books can be presented in any languages.
    • 2.8 The photobook dummy books must be created on or after the 1st of January 2020.
  • 3. Application
    • 3.1 Applicants should follow the application procedures to submit entries.
    • 3.2 Each applicant is allowed to submit more than one entry.
    • 3.3 Each entry requires one registration proof. *Please refer to the application procedures for further information on registration proof.
    • 3.4 For submission by post, multiple dummies can be mailed to us in the same package.
    • 3.5 The Organiser is not responsible for any loss or damage in the postage delivery.
    • 3.6 Applicants are advised to package the book with proper protection for postage delivery.
    • 3.7 For submission in person, applicants should submit the entries during the opening hours of the Organiser. *For the opening hours, please refer to the application procedures.
    • 3.8 The Award only accepts physical copy. Soft Copy is not accepted.
    • 3.9 The application fee is waived this year.
    • 3.10 The submission deadline is 31 March 2023, 23:59, Hong Kong Time, UTC/GMT+8 (postmark).
  • 4. Nomination
    • 4.1 The jury will shortlist no more than 12 dummies within April to May 2023, and the shortlists will be announced in June 2023.
    • 4.2 3 winners will be selected from the shortlisted dummies by the jury.
    • 4.3 The jury will evaluate each entry according to artistry, editorial quality and technical feasibility.
    • 4.4 The decision of the jury is deemed to be final and binding on all parties concerned.
    • 4.5 The results will be announced in the Hong Kong Photobook Festival 2023. (within July to August 2023)
    • 4.6 The shortlisted applicants and the winners will be notified in advance by email in June 2023.
    • 4.7 The winners will be invited to participate in the Award Ceremony.
  • 5. Prizes
    • 5.1 Winner’s dummies and other shortlisted dummies will be exhibited in the Hong Kong Photobook Festival 2023.
    • 5.2 The winner of the First Prize will be granted a maximum subsidy of HKD$30,000 for participation in the visit of the international photobook festival; or self-published photobooks.
  • 6. Rights & Obligations of the Applicants
    • 6.1 Applicants are required to declare that:
    • 6.2 all dummies submitted are their original works;
    • 6.3 they are the sole owners and rights holders of the content of their submitted dummies (texts, images and graphics);
    • 6.4 consent has been obtained from any party concerned for being featured in the images;
    • 6.5 all information provided is true and accurate;
    • 6.6 they are fully aware that false and misleading information may result in disqualification;
    • 6.7 all dummies submitted do not infringe the copyright, moral rights or other rights of any third party;
    • 6.8 all dummies submitted do not break any law;
    • 6.9 they agree to abide by the procedures, rights and responsibilities, terms and conditions of the Award;
    • 6.10 they agree to abide by the rules and regulations of the Award; and
    • 6.11 they understand and agree that the Organiser has the final decision to amend the rules and regulations of the Award.
    • 6.12 Applicants shall grant the right to the Organiser for presenting their photobook dummies in digital form partially or entirely on the Hong Kong Photobook Festival’s website.
    • 6.13 Applicants shall grant the right to the Organiser for usage of their dummies on any publicity materials, means and events. Prior consent from entrants is not required and no copyright royalty shall be levied.
  • 7. Rights & Responsibilities of the Organiser
    • 7.1 The Organiser shall handle the photobook dummies with the utmost care.
    • 7.2 The collected personal information shall be used for the Award only. All the collected information will be treated in confidence by the Organiser in accordance with the Hong Kong Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance. All personal information will be destroyed properly after the Award.
    • 7.3 The Organiser reserves the right to amend the regulation without prior notice. Amendment notice will be announced as soon as practicable. In the event of disputes, the Organiser reserves the right of final decision.
    • 7.4 In matters not regulated by the Terms and Conditions listed therein, the provisions of the law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region shall apply.
  • 8. Miscellaneous
    • 8.1 All the submitted entries will not be returned.
    • 8.2 All the submitted entries will be archived in the Photobook Library at Lumenvisum Company Limited for public reference and academic research.
    • 8.3 Application for the return of the dummies can be made by submitting an official request. Shipping costs will be borne by the applicants should such requests be acceded to. The Organiser is not liable for any loss or damage in this connection.
    • 8.4 In case of any discrepancy, the English version of the Terms and Conditions shall prevail over their Chinese counterparts.
