Terms & Conditions

Below you will find the terms and conditions for entering the Hong Kong Photozine and the Hong Kong Photobook Dummy Award 2025. Please read carefully before submitting an entry. 


1. General Information 

1.1 The Hong Kong Photozine Award and the Hong Kong Photobook Dummy Award (“the Award”) are the highlights of the Hong Kong Photobook Festival (“the Festival”), organised by Lumenvisum Company Limited (“the Organiser”).  

1.2 The Award aims to foster creative exchanges, support the emerging artists and make their projects accessible to the international audience. 


2. Eligibility 

2.1 The Award is open to photographers, artists, designers and all the creative talents. 

2.2 There is no specific age and nationality limit for entering the Award. 

2.3 The submitted entry can be done individually or collectively.  All candidates in a group must be students if they are submitting jointly under the Student Category of Photozine Award.  

2.4 The submitted entry must be original. 

2.5 The submitted entry must be self-published or unpublished. It cannot be published by any registered publisher or has never been committed to being published by any other publisher. 

2.6 ISBN or ISSN is not a requirement for the Awards. 

2.7 The submitted entry can be presented in any languages. 

2.8 The photobook dummy must be created on or after the 1st of January 2022. 

2.9 The photozine must be created on or after the 1st of January 2024. 


3. Application 

3.1 Applicants should follow the application procedures to submit entries. 

3.2 Applicants may apply for both awards. However, every work is only eligible for one award’s application (i.e. either Photobook Dummy Award, Student Category or Open Category of Photozine Award). 

3.3 Each applicant is allowed to submit one entry for each award. 

3.4 Each entry requires one registration proof. *Please refer to the application procedures for further information on registration proof. 

3.5 The applicant should submit their works with both physical and digital copy (For the format of digital copy, please refer to the application procedures). 

3.6 Applicants are advised to package the photobook dummy and photozine with proper protection for postage delivery. 

3.7 For submission by post, photobok dummy and photozine submitted by same applicant can be mailed to us in the same package. 

3.8 The Organiser is not responsible for any loss or damage in the postage delivery. 

3.9 For submission in person, applicants should submit the entries during the opening hours of the Organiser. (*For the opening hours, please refer to the application procedures.) 

3.10 The submission deadline is 15 Februrary 2025, 23:59, Hong Kong Time, UTC/GMT+8. Packages must arrive at the organiser’s office on or before February 15, 2025. Expired packages will not be accepted.  

3.11 All shortlisted work will be featured in various exhibitions globally. In order to ensure the pieces’ good condition throughout the tour, shortlisted applicants need to submit a second physical copy of their works to the organiser. This second copy should arrive at Lumenvisum within 21 days after the announcement of the shortlist. 

3.12 The application fee is waived this year. 


4. Nomination 

4.1 The jury will shortlist no more than 15 dummies and 20 zines (10 zines for open and student groups respectively) in March 2025, and the shortlists will be announced in April 2025. 

4.2 3 winners per group will be selected from the shortlisted dummies/zines by the jury. 

4.3 The jury will evaluate each entry according to concept, design, artistry, editorial quality and technical feasibility. 

4.4 The decision of the jury is deemed to be final and binding on all parties concerned. 

4.5 The results will be announced in the Hong Kong Photobook Festival 2025. (within May 2025) 

4.6 The shortlisted applicants and the winners will be notified in advance by email in April 2025. 

4.7 The winners will be invited to participate in the Award Ceremony. 


5. Prizes 

5.1 Winner’s dummies/zines and other shortlisted dummies/zines will be exhibited in the Hong Kong Photobook Festival 2025. 

5.2 The winner of the First Prize of Photobook Dummy Award and Photozine Award will be granted a maximum subsidy of HKD$20,000 and HKD$3,000 respectively for participation in the visit of the international photobook festival; or self-published photobooks. 


6. Rights & Obligations of the Applicants 

Applicants are required to declare that: 

6.1 all dummies/zines submitted are their original works; 

6.2 they are the sole owners and rights holders of the content of their submitted dummies/zines (texts, images and graphics); 

6.3 consent has been obtained from any party concerned for being featured in the images; 

6.4 all information provided is true and accurate; 

6.5 they are fully aware that false and misleading information may result in disqualification; 

6.6 all dummies/zines submitted do not infringe the copyright, moral rights or other rights of any third party; 

6.7 all dummies/zines submitted do not break any law; 

6.8 they agree to abide by the procedures, rights and responsibilities, terms and conditions of the Awards; 

6.9 they agree to abide by the rules and regulations of the Awards; and 

6.10 they understand and agree that the Organiser has the final decision to amend the rules and regulations of the Awards. 

6.11 Applicants shall grant the right to the Organiser for presenting their photobook dummies/zines in digital form partially or entirely on the Hong Kong Photobook Festival’s website. 

6.12 Applicants shall grant the right to the Organiser for usage of their dummies/zines on any publicity materials, means and events. Prior consent from entrants is not required and no copyright royalty shall be levied. 


7. Rights & Responsibilities of the Organiser  

7.1 The Organiser shall handle the photobook dummies/zines with the utmost care. 

7.2 The collected personal information shall be used for the Awards only. All the collected information will be treated in confidence by the Organiser in accordance with the Hong Kong Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance. All personal information will be destroyed properly after the Awards. 

7.3 The Organiser reserves the right to amend the regulation without prior notice. Amendment notice will be announced as soon as practicable. In the event of disputes, the Organiser reserves the right of final decision. 

7.4 In matters not regulated by the Terms and Conditions listed therein, the provisions of the law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region shall apply. 


8. Miscellaneous 

8.1 All the submitted entries will not be returned. 

8.2 All the submitted entries will be archived in the Photobook Library at Lumenvisum Company Limited for public reference and academic research. 

8.3 Application for the return of the dummies can be made by submitting an official request. Shipping costs will be borne by the applicants should such requests be acceded to. The Organiser is not liable for any loss or damage in this connection. 

8.4 In case of any discrepancy, the English version of the Terms and Conditions shall prevail over their Chinese counterparts.
